This is the adventure wedding page! We love the name "Marilyn Ray Photography" but it doesn't fit the theme of going outdoors and getting your hiking boots laced up with your wedding dress on, so we call this section "sand and stone"
Now that we explained that confusion lets get into the idea of having an adventure elopement, or, in other words, a wedding outside the norm! Basically this type of wedding is literally anything you want it to be that isn't in a venue, is outdoors, is small or just the two of you (and me) and includes some sort of beautiful backdrop. You mix all of those things together and TADA.. you have yourself an adventure wedding! You also are in luck as we have tons of information to help you with this type of wedding and get you started on planning it. 

​Did you know that you can elope in CO with just the two of you! No officiant or Witnesses needed! 
Colorado is a self-solemnize state and all you need is a marriage license and yourselves. You may need permits for certain locations which is another reason why it is great to hire an adventure photographer for your elopement. The first reason is the obvious reason... GORGEOUS PICTURES OF YOUR WEDDING DAY!
Couples are spending around 40 to 50% of their wedding budget on the venue and reception alone. Why not take that money and place it all in one. The wedding, photographer, travel costs, and the honeymoon as well (if you aren't local you can stay for a few extra days and enjoy life as married couple). All of this wrapped into one cost that is usually much less than a traditional wedding.

The love for nature is the very thing that gets us out in it. We see you.. .the trail runners and the "take it all in" hikers. The backyard campers and the back country explorers. The trail head tailgaters and the peak obsessors. The city explorers and the side walk strollers.  However you get out there, we want you to do what feels natural on your wedding day.

What is an ADVENTURE ELOPEMENT?
It is just that. An elopement that is filled with adventure and I 10/10 recommend one! 
It can be a yurt sleepover with all your loved ones, in the middle of no where or just the two of you under a waterfall.
Think breathtaking views and becoming one with nature. People love this type of wedding because they feel most connected when in the great outdoors.

WHO WOULD DO THIS
The couples who want this type of wedding tend to have a love of travel, nature and passion for exploring. They want to be unique. They throw all the rules out the window and do things the way they want to. They typically don't want the stress that "traditional" can bring. They are fearless and definitely not afraid of a little dirt. They live life on the edge, wear their hearts on their sleeves and value experiences over things.

WHERE CAN WE DO THIS
With an adventure wedding, the possibilities are endless. From mountains, to waterfalls, to beaches, to caves. To get to the destination of your choice, you can have four-wheeler rides, horseback riding, helicopter rides, or just a simple hike... Literally, wherever or however your imagination takes you! 

WHEN SHOULD WE HAVE OUR ADVENTURE WEDDING?
Consider where you want to go and research. We can help you with this! 
Look at weather, does your destination have a rainy season?
Think about Tourism, is it a tourist area and does it have a peak season? If so, consider the crowds, longer lines and booked lodging.
