Engagement Sessions have become one of my favorite things to photograph. I know we talked about this before but I continue to get the question "should we do engagement pictures?" I always say "YES!" Engagement pictures are the best way to get to know your wedding photographer, to learn how they work, what poses you like best, and as a bonus, you get gorgeous pictures to cherish.
Picking a wedding photographer is a hard task. You may love their pictures but are you going to love their personality, Are they going to get you your pictures in a timely manner, etc. The engagement session is a way for you to learn all these things. You probably have spoken on the phone with your wedding photographer and maybe even have met them in person but actually working with them before the wedding is something even better. As a wedding photographer, it is good for us as well. It helps us help you trust us, learn what you are comfortable with as far as poses go, and what type of pictures you like best. This helps us even more to take those amazing pictures on your wedding day! So if you are on the fence about having the engagement pictures taken, don't be. Do it, I promise you won't regret it and you will more than likely have fun doing it as well!
It's trendy but it is also very beneficial!
ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS ARE EXTREMELY POPULAR AND TRENDY THESE DAYS! EVERYONE IS DOING THEM! AS A PHOTOGRAPHER, I BELIEVE THEY ARE NOT ONLY FUN AND EXCITING BUT VERY BENEFICIAL FOR EVERYONE AS WELL. CHECK OUT THE LATEST ENGAGEMENT SESSION WE DID WITH VALERIE AND JAMES. HE PROPOSED TO HER AT THIS FOUNTAIN RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF DOWNTOWN. WE DECIDED TO HAVE THE SESSION THERE TO INCORPORATE THAT SPECIAL MOMENT BETWEEN THEM. IN CASE YOU CAN'T TELL... SHE DEFINITELY SAID YES.
Should you have engagement pictures taken?
I think so. These type of sessions give you the opportunity to not only meet your photographer in person (if you haven't already) but it also gives you the opportunity to see how they work, what their personality and energy is like, and what they expect out of you. You can see what certain poses look and feel like and you won't be so nervous in front of the camera on your wedding day if you already had a "trial run" before hand. It also gives you the opportunity to speak about any concerns you may have for the wedding day and go over ideas, and must-haves. It's not only good for you but its good for us photographers as well. It gives us the opportunity to learn personalities, insecurities, how to make you feel comfortable with them, your likes and don't likes, and the list goes on and on. Plus you get gorgeous pictures to share when it is all over. Most photographers have this type of session as a added bonus in a wedding package for you as well. I don't think you can go wrong by choosing to have them done, especially if it is an option in a package you already chose.
I am the person behind the lens for Marilyn Ray Photography. I have been been a lifestyle photographer for 5 years and have made my way into the wedding and marketing industry. I really enjoy what I do. I love being creative and stepping outside the ordinary box.
